Move Over IQ and EQ AQ is Here! - Hire Imaging
Move Over IQ and EQ AQ is Here! - Hire Imaging Initially individuals were employed for their capacity to carry out the responsibility. At that point there was adaptability â" the individuals who moved to look for some kind of employment in recently settled manufacturing plants and workplaces. As work transformed, we had friendliness, with center around groups and interchanges. Obviously, bosses moved to choosing ability with the best work properties, and afterward observing them to improve their presentation. This prompted the improvement of proportions of aptitude and insight (or IQ), and afterward social abilities and enthusiastic knowledge (EQ). Meet flexibility remainder (AQ). In the late 1990s, Daniel Goleman drove the enthusiastic knowledge blast, promoted as the human side of shrewd; and one of the most persuasive ideal models of the decade. We currently have a triangle to incorporate IQ, EQ, and AQ. AQ is getting progressively significant as more pioneers talk about the steady change their associations and ventures are encountering. Problematic advancements add to the blend. Similarly as with IQ and EQ, Adaptability Quotient (AQ) can be created to grasp and work with change. The 3 remainders characterized: IQ or IQ: The insight, information, and realities that one has. Feeling Quotient or EQ: The passionate understanding one has of oneself as well as other people to help with varying circumstances and individuals. Versatility Quotient or AQ: The capacity to adjust to and flourish in a situation of progress. For what reason does AQ make a difference? The practices we have sharpened for a considerable length of time will be tested as out of date. The worldwide closeness of the working environment is a factor. Key likewise is that innovation is changing at an exponential rate, driving us to learn at a quicker pace than any time in recent memory. Work vision, objectives, methodologies, activity, structure and progressive system may immensely vary starting with one year then onto the next. A current model for AQ. While there is a plenty of data on IQ and EQ, creating models and estimations for AQ are as yet in play. The creators of The Oz Principle made a 4-advance model for creating AQ. See it. Recognize change is required. One must get the viewpoint of others by posing inquiries about the change required, alongside inviting positive and useful criticism about the change's effect. Some might not have any desire to hear the appropriate responses. It's muddled, yet required. Own it. Despite the fact that many oppose change, this conduct can cause disappointment when required change is disregarded. As an individual it's pivotal to take responsibility for by and large required change; and take duty to push through the inescapable difficulties (and disappointments) that will go with the change. Unravel it. The key inquiry while spotting answers for encourage adaption is, The thing that else can I (we) do? It's essential to take note of that what else signifies think in an unexpected way instead of accomplish more. The inquiry is ground-breaking since it disturbs siloes between groups, spurs inventive arrangements, and surveys dangers. Do it. Execution is the last advance and envelops finish and responsibility to your group. Straightforwardness and trust are key in this period of supporting change. Where are we headed with AQ? As indicated by the writing out there, we are probably going to witness three things in the work environment comparative with AQ: As a general public, we will concur that flexibility is a significant pointer of future achievement. We will likewise concur that a measurement to quantify it is required â" not fleshed out at this composition. We will discover better approaches to both test our AQ and improve it after some time. An enormous industry will rise to build our AQ â" from pharmaceuticals and assembling, to preparing and advancement, to media and games. There are the individuals who foresee that IQ and EQ will take a secondary lounge to AQ, which will end up being the essential marker of achievement, attached to how we're ready to stay aware of consistent change. It will be pertinent to quest for new employment and profession the board. I would contend it as of now is a key factor. I generally love to get notification from you! A sound understanding of the market is important when deciding whether to buy or sell, where to look, how to price a house, and what to offer. As 2017 winds to a close, keep an eye on these housing trends. 1. New Homes Will Cost More for Buyers Increased labor and construction costs means buyers will be paying more for new homes. Labor shortages and tougher immigration policies are causing builders to increase their rates. Inform buyer clients considering building or buying a new property that higher costs should be considered. There will likely be a shortage of construction workers this fall due to stricter immigrant labor laws that may pass. Purchasing an existing home may be a better deal than building or buying a new house. Although newer homes cost more, the overall trend in home construction is still positive, with a 5 percent increase in 2016. Experts suggest that new home construction will continue to increase throughout 2017. 2. Home Prices Will Increase By 3.6 Percent Leading economists and real estate experts predict that home values will slow down compared to 2016. Home prices are only expected to increase by 3.6 percent, which is good news for buyers planning to buy this year. Owners thinking of selling may want to wait a year or two until price growth picks up again in the hopes of getting a higher price. 3. Mortgage Rates May Rise Although the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate was under 3.75 percent during the summer, experts believe that it will stay above 4 percent. But rates are still low, making 2017 a good time to buy a home. Advise buyers to lock in a low rate before they have a chance to increase in 2018 or 2019. Mortgage credit will also be more readily available as lending standards become more flexible and lenient. Government-owned mortgage companies will also begin to back up larger mortgages again. Millennials Will Begin Buying Houses For several years, millennials have avoided buying homes, perhaps due to a lack of employment opportunities, stability, and a down payment. But now adults under 35 are ready to buy, making up 61 percent of first-time home buyers in 2016. Experts recommend that buyers file income taxes early because lenders will need to see the latest information. Advise buyer clients to save money for a down payment and the closing costs. What is their input? Is it the 'limp fish' frail handshake? Is it the 'muscle head' squashing handshake? Is it some place in the center â" firm, however not very firm? Your handshake leaves an impression with the questioners before you even open your mouth. Breaking point Use of Filler Words 'Um', 'Ah', 'Like' . . . those little filler words add nothing to your answer. Truth be told, they are distracters that emphasis the questioner on things other than the extraordinary model you simply shared. First you have to distinguish your filler words. Tape yourself rehearsing for a meeting or practice with a companion as the questioner. What are your filler words? You may be astonished by the words or expressions you depend on to fill the quietness or use to slow down while you think about an answer. How to calm your fearful lizard brain and live life to the fullest
Step by step instructions to quiet your dreadful 'reptile cerebrum' and make every moment count Step by step instructions to quiet your dreadful 'reptile cerebrum' and make every moment count Heather Hansen is an acclaimed preliminary legal advisor, keynote speaker, and Next Big Idea Club part whose most recent book is The Elegant Warrior: How to Win Life's Trials Without Losing Yourself. Heather as of late plunked down with Next Big Idea Club Marketing Director Marquina Iliev-Piselli to examine why dread is so enticing, and becoming a really exquisite warrior. This discussion has been altered and consolidated. To tune in to the full form, click the connection here.Follow Ladders on Flipboard!Follow Ladders' magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and more! Marquina: How did you come about writing The Elegant Warrior?Heather: I guard specialists in clinical misbehavior cases, and I was making some troublesome memories going to bat for myself, defining limits, and utilizing my voice in my reality. In any case, I was so acceptable at it in the court, so I understood that in the event that I utilized the instruments from the co urt, in actuality, it would be a mess simpler. When that clicked for me, I felt that it would be of administration on the off chance that I imparted it to other people.Marquina: [The book] follows your profession direction, and I like how rather than Counterfeit it until you make it, you state, Show it until you develop it. You're the encapsulation of that.Heather: So regularly we hear Counterfeit it until you make it. And I know from advising customers on the most proficient method to affirm that on the off chance that they're being phony, the jury knows it right away. At that point you've lost believability, and you've lost your case. But on the off chance that you can locate that little piece within you that you seek to be-whether it's certainty, or graciousness, or satisfaction when you're feeling blue, or the capacity to talk before a group when you locate that little piece and you show it, it tends to take care of off the oxygen you give it, and afterward it is permitted to gro w.Marquina: Could you talk about what you mean when you state that we are the exquisite warrior in our lives?Heather: The word style originates from a Latin root that signifies to pick. I imagine that we pick our class, and the definition is somewhat unique for everybody. For me, it's simply the capacity to be valid, both who you are presently and who you feel bound to be-and to do that, regardless of what you're facing. The word 'polish' originates from a Latin root that way 'to choose.'As a preliminary attorney, I realize that preliminaries get warmed. Also, during times of preliminary, it's enticing to be all warrior and lose the style, or go for class and not battle the war. Finding that parity is a consistent battle for me, however in the event that I can remain consistent with who I am, at that point I realize that I can glance myself in the mirror toward the finish of a preliminary, regardless of whether I win or lose the case.Marquina: You additionally talk about how you rega rd the other board, despite the fact that you don't concur, and they're very aggravating at times.Heather: Yeah, that is so critical to me-and the other chamber, yet additionally the other party, since we as a whole have various forms of a story. Studies show that close to being recounted to a story, you and I will have various variants of that story. So at preliminary, I feel that I can contend with their reality without taking their poise. At the point when I question somebody, I may need the jury to imagine that their variant of the story isn't the right one, however I don't need to disregard them, or make them look awful, or cause them to feel awful. I buckle down not to do that.Sometimes the gathering themselves will acknowledge, Goodness, perhaps I wasn't right. But more often than not, it's up to the jury. It's such a decent exercise to see that I have a story, contradicting gathering has an alternate story, and at last the jury picks what's actual. It shows that the stories we let ourselves know whether it's in your own head or in your connections are not in every case valid. There's regularly an alternate point of view to take a gander at, and that has been extremely useful when I'm feeling down, or baffled, or like a disappointment. There's consistently an alternate form of the story that you can tell yourself.Marquina: You have three parts on protests: figuring out how to question, defeating complaints, and when we should quit searching for protests. You center around that [last one] the most-is there an explanation for that?Heather: Yeah, on the grounds that it's such a major piece of life, particularly for ladies. We ladies are great at supporting for others in our lives, however not all that great at pushing for ourselves. Discovering that we can question without getting authorization, and not searching for approval, yet on the grounds that we're awkward with something, is imperative.Learning that we can protest without getting consent, and not s earching for approval, however in light of the fact that we're awkward with something, is imperative.Sometimes others are going to state, You're excessively youthful, you're excessively old, you're excessively female, you're excessively dark, no doubt about it. And [then there's] the most harming of all-your own inward complaints that state, You're not brilliant enough, you're not mature enough, you're not experienced enough. Those are the things that keep us down the most.Don't go through your time on earth searching for protests. I've been on Fox, MSNBC, and CNN, so I see the two sides of political contentions, and I feel that we're frequently searching for motivations to be irritated. In case you're searching for protests, you're going to discover them-yet on the off chance that you do it each possibility you get, you may pass up some fun, and some giggling, and some association. So it's tied in with finding that balance between defining your limits and knowing when you have to o bject.Marquina: Absolutely. There's a part [about] the scourge of information. Would you be able to mention to me what that means?Heather: I read about a Stanford study where [participants] tapped a tune with a pencil, and saw whether an audience could think about what the tune was. More often than not, they can't-however the individual tapping, who knows the melody, gets disappointed in light of the fact that the audience doesn't have any acquaintance with it. The individual who's tapping has the scourge of information they realize the tune so well that it's difficult to recall what it resembles not to know it.I have shielded clinic specialists for a long time, so I've seen firsthand how specialists have the scourge of information. They talk about vascular specialists rather than blood specialists, or they talk about all out knee arthroplasty rather than an all out knee substitution that scourge of information truly hinders communication. The most ideal approach to defeat the scourg e of information is to ask questions. And we as a whole have it. We have it about our own considerations and our own bodies-we simply expect that others know things. I would do that all the time with my beau you expect that he realizes you've had an awful day, or that you need a specific blessing. Be that as it may, there's an examination indicating that preliminary legal advisors need to make statements multiple times in seven different ways before the jury truly gets it. Furthermore, it's actual in your own life too-when your [boyfriend or] spouse isn't getting it, you've quite recently got the opportunity to state it again in an alternate way.The most ideal approach to defeat the scourge of information is to pose inquiries. I don't get the opportunity to ask my jury, Is this sounding good to you? Do you get this? Do you have questions? But, all things considered, you do get the opportunity to do that.Marquina: One of the last parts is tied in with dealing with your reptile mind. W ould you be able to discuss that a bit?Heather: It's captivating when I was a more youthful lawyer, a book came out for lawyers who sue, and it's [about how] you ought to get the members of the jury considering their own endurance. Regardless of whether it's a risky item or a hazardous specialist, you need the jury to think, Gracious my gosh, I need to shield myself and my family from this thing! That's taking care of the reptile brain. There are a few people that accept there's a piece of our mind at the cerebrum stem that is worried about what they call the three F's: food, dread, and proliferation (the terrible F word). Also, that is the piece of the cerebrum that should be settled you must reveal to it that it's safe. It's similar to how in Big Magic, Elizabeth Gilbert discusses how if her dread was in the vehicle with her, it wouldn't be permitted to drive the vehicle. It wouldn't be permitted to give the bearings, it wouldn't be permitted to control the radio. Be that as it may, it's despite everything permitted in the vehicle it simply needs to sit in the back seat. That's the manner by which I consider the reptile cerebrum let it hang out in the sun. [Once it knows that] it's protected, you can go on to inventiveness and love and association and chuckling and happiness and everything that we're intended to be doing. This article initially showed up on Heleo. 6 Jobs That Are Much Better Than You Think
6 Jobs That Are Much Better Than You Think We all have notions about whats involved in all kinds of jobs. What comes to mind when you think of a janitor, or a farmer? Though some jobs might not seem very rewarding or impressive, theyre actually more so than you might think â" so how about challenging your preconceptions and maybe considering some career paths that had never crossed your mind before? Here are some jobs that youd probably enjoy more than youd think. (All of this is from a UK perspective, and whats involved in a role may be different between countries.) 1. Flight attendant: Theres a persistent idea out there that flight attendants basically just push a trolley up and down cramped cabins, plane and simple. But theres more to this job than many people imagine. If you can land this highly competitive position (theres about 100 applicants for each position), you get the great benefit of seeing the world as you regularly stay one or two nights at each global destination. The pay is first class too â" much more than wait staff on the ground can expect. Flight attendants are also given more leeway in dealing with a rude customer than a server in a restaurant. The position is one of some authority â" theyre qualified to save your life after all â" so the usual turbulence experienced in customer service is not nearly so much of a problem. 2. Lift mechanic: Lift (or elevator) repair is fantastic on so many levels. You might not expect it, but installers and mechanics in the UK can expect to earn £50,000 per year. Even better, the pay and benefits are on the rise. Lift repair has its ups and downs, however. Mechanics work in dark, cramped spaces and theres the usual danger involved when working with electricity and heights. But you can learn on the job, or become an apprentice, and despite the fact you dont need to study, theres currently a shortage of workers in this field. 3. Train driver: Not everyone dreams of driving trains when they grow up, but those who choose it are on track for a great range of benefits. The hours and pay are generous, and who wouldnt want to have a sit down with a cup of tea and see the glorious countryside as they work? Wed be chuffed with that. The selection process is tough however, and so is the training, so to speak. Few who apply make it to the drivers seat. You need to have nerves of steel and have no problem working alone. 4. Dog walker: Think about it â" what is there not to love about walking dogs for a living? OK, you have to be handy with the pooper scooper, and youll probably paws for thought if youre a cat lover instead. But this isnt a ruff job at all if you want to get fit, spend time with (probably) the best animal there is, and dont mind getting rained on now and again. Dog walkers often charge £10- £15 per (part) hour â" walk 4 dogs at a time and youre making £60 per hour so you should have no bones to pick with the salary, especially on a part time basis. 5. Librarian: Depending on how much of a bookworm you are, the prospect of being a librarian may fill you with dread or joy. You can take it as read that certain types of people would not thrive in this role, but if its right for you, youll find it highly rewarding to help people learn and discover. The immediate future for many public libraries in the UK is uncertain at the moment, but working in an academic or medical library offers a lot of comfort in a more stimulating and modern setting than you might imagine. 6. Window washer: If you dont mind heights, you can expect to rise to the top in a career as a window washer. Though its harder than many people expect, those who love what they do know that theyre getting plenty of fresh air, wonderful views, and best of all, theyre left to get on with it rather than being pestered all day. The exact rate depends on what kind of work youre doing; do you have a bucket and ladder, or are you hanging from a rope outside a skyscraper in gale force winds? Either way, you can stand to make a decent wage for manual work that doesnt require any education. Thats not to say theres no skill involved, of course, but the good news almost anyone can get on the ladder. All this proves that its best to find out a little about a job before you rule it out for good, and be ready to have your ideas challenged. You might just find a niche that nobody else has exploited. After all, the money is often better in careers that nobody really wants to do. Whats the best unexpected factor of your job? (P.S. Excuse the puns!) 19 Resume Bullet Point Examples That Get Interviews - Career Sidekick
19 Resume Bullet Point Examples That Get Interviews - Career Sidekick 19 Resume Bullet Point Examples That Get Interviews Resume/CV / https://www.edenscott.com/blog As a recruiter, the first place I look on your resume is the bullets under your recent work experience. Then if it looks like a good potential fit, I look back up to see your resume summary and other sections. Many other recruiters and hiring managers have told me the same thing too.So writing great bullet points on your resume is essential if you want to get callbacks for interviews. Fortunately, theres a specific strategy you can follow to make your resume bullets stand out immediately. Ill explain in the next section, and I also contacted a small group of top career coaches, resume writers and other career experts and asked them to share their best resume bullet point examples to highlight this strategy. So Im going to share those with you too.How to Make Your Resume Bullets Stand Out by Listing Specific AccomplishmentsThe best way to make your resume bullet points stand out is to list specific accomplishments and results whenever possible.First, l ets look at what NOT to do (and what most job seekers do, unfortunately). And then well look at some outstanding resume bullet point examples so you can see how other job seekers did this successfully. How most people write bullets on their resume:Responsible for handling a high volume of inbound customer requests per dayManaged day to day activities and long term projects for large corporate accountsFYI, those points above are from an actual resume of mine when I was applying for jobs in a new city from very early in my career before I became a recruiter. And that resume did NOT get interviews. It was a total failure. The big reason why: Its not listing any accomplishments. Its just stating what I was responsible for or what my boss assigned me to do.And thats a sure-fire way to blend in, get your resume skipped over and NOT get the interview. So now lets look at how those two bullet point examples above should have been written with more data, and a focus on accomplishments/resultsThe better way to write bullet points on your resume:Successfully managed 50-70 inbound customer requests per day, ranking in the top 5% of all support associates in 2017Managed day-to-day activities of 7 key corporate accounts while successfully completing 9 client projects, each with a budget above $500,000, leading to a $2.1 million increase in new business for the companyNotice how those bullet point examples are very specific and use facts, data and real accomplishments. An added perk of doing this: numbers and symbols (like $ and %) make your resume stand out visually before the recruiter or hiring manager has even read a word. This is very powerful for getting your resume read (rather than skimmed or thrown out).19 Great Resume Bullet Point Examples That Get InterviewsNow that you know the difference between listing responsibilities and listing accomplishments in your resume bullets, lets look at examples of bullet points that have gotten job seekers interviews and job offers!Bel ow youll find 19 bullet examples from 6 different resumes, contributed by different career experts. Some have more numbers and metrics than others, but they all focus on talking about what the person actually did and accomplished in their previous work.Resume Bullet Point Examples From a Workplace Safety and Organizational Compliance Professional:Successfully reduced workerâs compensation injuries from 20 to 2 in a one-year period through the introduction of a comprehensive employee incentive program.Brought organization back into federal compliance by establishing an organization-wide Leave of Absence process.Received corporate-wide Employee of the Year Award (pool of 1,250+ staff) and multiple Employee of the Month Awards (pool of 130 staff). This resume quickly earned the candidate an interview, followed by a job offer, as a result of effectively communicating both their responsibilities and associated accomplishments.Instead of focusing on what they do day-to-day (promote workpl ace safety and ensure organizational compliance), they highlight the end goal of their efforts (reducing workerâs compensation injuries and bringing the organization back into compliance). They then wrap it up with a final bullet that further backs up their accomplishments.By: Kyle Elliott, MPA, CHES, Career Coach at CaffeinatedKyle.comResume Bullet Point Examples From a CIO Resume:Earned 2015 CIO of the Year Finalist accolades from the ___ Business Journal for directing a sustainable IT and global ERP strategy that supported 2.5X revenue growth to $3.5B through acquisition and regional expansion.Reduced annual expenses 15% by leading cost reduction, quality improvements, productivity initiatives and infrastructure enhancements supporting business systems, core network and security.Launched a 5-year, $32M strategy that integrated acquisitions to IT, corporate standards, core business platforms and governance for this company with 50+ global manufacturing + sales facilities. These r esume bullets are proof you dont need to be in sales to show quantifiable achievements. Just Stop Talking - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Just Stop Talking - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career I have recently chosen to not work with a new salesperson from a vendor that Ive worked with for years. Why? They wouldnt stop talking. As much as Id like to learn more about you to develop a long term sales relationship, if youre looking to sell to me, or anyone, youve got a lesson youll need to learn: just. stop. talking. Sales arent successful based on how much product knowledge you have, nor based on how much experience you have. Sales are made based on how well you understand my problem. If you dont know your products well, call me back with a solution based on my needs after doing some research internally. If you dont have experience, that can be overcome easily by inviting an honest dialogue. If you dont stop talking, you dont know me, my company, or my challenges. Without knowledge of my challenges, you have no basis upon which to recommend your products. Heres a great quote from Christopher Penns Awaken Your Superhero Blog about the Most Powerful Sales Technique In The World: Shut up. Yes, thatâs the technique. Shut up. I have seen more salespeople lose deals or carve themselves into unprofitability from nervous speech than from any other sales technique failure. Marketers are especially bad at not shutting up. Once youâve shared some information that should provoke a reaction, learn to keep your speech turned off (and I say that because it includes text chat, email chains in your inbox, replies on Facebook, and conversations on the phone and in person) and wait for the reaction. Want to achieve new sales success? Just stop talking. Add Cold Calling Techniques to Land Your Career Move
Add Cold Calling Techniques to Land Your Career Move Add Cold Calling Techniques to Land Your Career Move Making cold calls on companies can give job seekers the chills! As a hiring manager and job search professional for over 30 years, I have yet to meet one job seeker who is comfortable making cold calls for jobs, sending e-mails to a perfect stranger, or corresponding with people they arenât personally connected to. However, when done well, cold calling works and thereâs no downside to it. By the way, todayâs version of cold calling does NOT mean dialing for jobs! Do NOT pick up the phone and interrupt someoneâs work day. Todayâs job search cold calling is sending extremely welldone e-mails describing your credentials. Many of my clients tell me how hard it is to click the âconnectâ button in LinkedIn, and they are not even talking to a real person yet! Imagine reaching out to someone who is in an executive position, and introducing yourself, and then asking if there are career opportunities to discuss. Itâs just not easy, but it can produce results. Tony, a client of mine, learned to tackle cold calling like a champ. After working with me, he sent out 25 very welldone cold call solicitations. He got three requests for phone interviews. One landed in a facetoface interview, resulting in a job offer. Cold calling is a longestablished job search activity. And, like every other job search action, it should become a normal part of your job search to-do list. Recruiters, HR officers and senior executives are always on the lookout for great talent. Honestly, after making numerous cold calls you probably wonât get many responses. But that one person who gets back to you could change your career path forever. Here are three common scenarios when cold calling may be effective: You see a job advertised but dont know anybody at that company. You dont want to just apply because you know the odds are high your application will go into a black hole. But you want to win the job by networking! You can cold call someone to be your job advocate. You see a job advertised and you do know someone at that company remotely or via LinkedIn. They may not be the hiring manager but at least you have a connection. You only need to find one who will help you out! You know someone who works at a target company, based on your career goal, but you donât know if there are any relevant positions. As a matter of fact, you dont see any posted on their website, but you happen to know one person who works there. Making a cold call would work for all the above scenarios and others. Great, but how do you do it? Begin by following these three steps for making cold calls. Start by writing great e-mails. If you know anybody at your target company, regardless of their position or level, contact them via e-mail. Use LinkedIn and other sources to find their e-mail address. Make sure you send a professionally written request through e-mail that they can forward to someone else in the company, if necessary. Always attach your credentials (cover letter and résumé). Research and use social media. Before you start cold calling, go online and spend time researching the companies you are targeting. Try to find a contact name and e-mail within your desired department or division, rather than sending a cold call cover letter into human resources. Take accountability to research before you cold call. Always be prepared before you write the cold call e-mail. What if you get a call back to have a conversation? Are you prepared to answer questions like âWhat kind of position are you looking for?â or do you have a scripted, concise response to âTell me about yourselfâ? Making cold calls to land your ideal job is not going to be easy, but nothing ever is. As you get more comfortable with cold calling, be sure to incorporate it into your normal job search process. Remember to always be friendly, courteous and clear when making cold connections. The more precise and specific you are about why you are calling, the better the chances of them engaging with you. And with all job search activities, be prepared; write down what you want to say and have your goals in front of you. 4 Ways to Find Passionate Talent - CareerAlley
4 Ways to Find Passionate Talent - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. A tremendous amount of time and effort goes into preparing and succeeding in hiring new staff. Reviewingresumes, leveraging your networks, conductinginterviews, etc. Many hiring managershave no idea why it is so challenging to hire the best staff. Sometimes its obvious (not qualified, candidates compensation is too high, etc.) but many times it is not obvious. While recruiters might give you some feedback (they might not tell you the full story), hiring managers do not always get thefeedback as to why a candidate hasrejected an offer. In my experience as a hiring manager, I look for individuals who possess passion for their work. This is crucial to help ensure a bestmatch is not only made for the job but for the organizations culture as well. There are a number of avenues hiring managers can leverage to learn about and evaluate job seekers. When doing so, considerlooking at four major areas for signs of passion: Resume: History: Review the job candidates history to see what theyve done and what theyre doing, looking for patterns of activity that indicate increasing roles and responsibilities. While these may not directly indicate passion, they reflect stability and a predictable career path. If the career path doesnt look normal, look for indications of why their career pathtook a left turn. Activities: Look for activity outside of the office that support team participation such as sports. Also look for continuing education specifically the pursuit of advanced degrees and certifications. Achievements: Its important to look for awards and other achievements, indicating how they have excelled, specifically individual, leadership and industry-specific awards. more What to Exclude from your Resume Social Media: Profile: Review major social media sites and review the candidates profile to ensure that it reflects theiroccupation in some way. Try to look for indications of pride (such as look for awards, speaking engagements or promotions). This is also a great time to do a basic Google search on the candidate (beware of similar names which belong to other individuals). Engagement: Passion can be seen in what the individualshares about their vocation. Individuals who share information, articles and news that relate to their job stand out as potential experts in their field. Groups: Participating in social media groups and industry trade groups affiliated with their field shows that theyre interested in learning and sharing knowledge with their peers. Online Activities: Blogging activities (whether they manage their own or participate in other occupational-related blogs) reflect a deeper connection to their chosen profession. The extra time spent by these individuals may demonstrate a dedication to their field. Interview: Presentation: Look for candidates who presents themselves in a confident and energetic manner proud of their skills, experience and accomplishments. They should have confidence (but not be cocky) Involvement: Individuals who employ their skills outside of the office may reflect passion. Advancing their understanding through self-study, reading and hobbies, as well as utilizing their skills in volunteer or community activity may reflect that a job is more than just a paycheck. more Dos and Donts of Interviews Reference Checks: Professional Contacts: Listen to what former employers and professors say about a candidates work product and work ethic for signs of passion and dedication. Personal Contacts: Personal references can be valuable as they may offer a more candid look into a job candidates interests and background. Personal references have the ability to reveal a candidates passion from their everyday life outside of the office. While these areas are not absolute for finding passionate talent, they may narrow the field to those candidates who you should consider for the job. Career Tip of the Day:Why Should We Hire You?
